"Where to even begin? We spent the past two nights at Te Wepu to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I have no idea how we’re ever going to top it. I think I’m in love with the place. No, I KNOW I am. We both are. From first arrival - we were greeted by Kate (who had a freshly baked cob loaf filled with dip in her arms warm and ready for us!) The track was full of bird life - my favorite being the little fan tails darting about and showing off which may have been why we were so distracted. At the top we met Richie who had already unloaded our bags and got the hot tub going for us, he stayed for a chat and explained how to work everything including the awesome bioloo so we could pee in style (and pure comfort!) We spent the first night tucking into some absolute delights - including the fresh cob loaf (oh my godddd!), some Barry’s bay cheese and homemade seed crackers (also made by Kate - also amazing) as well as a good amount of other snacks we brought along. After a dip in the hot tub and a good laugh at the kereru which were doing some kind of dive bombing from the surrounding trees we waited for darkness in the hopes of some stargazing - unfortunately for us as the sun set the clouds took over, so we resigned to our (extremely comfortable) double bed. About 5am nature called and so I decided to make a trip to the loo. On opening the pod door I was greeted with a full display of the Milky Way. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen the stars so clearly and so I woke Tom up and we sat outside on the bean bags under the alpaca blanket (warmest blanket I’ve ever used) just staring at them and even got to see a shooting star. We decided to stay up for sunrise (I’m absolutely not a morning person but I just had to) and so we made ourselves a nice hot drink with the gas kettle and cosied up! It did not disappoint - along with the sunrise came a beautiful dawn chorus of natives, encored by cicadas. By 8am we tucked into breakfast - cooked breakfast for Tom with some free range eggs from the farm and Kate’s muesli for me with honey also from the farm. I honestly feel like we died and went to heaven. We landed ourselves some stunner weather with 27 degrees and blue skies. We finished the evening by cooking up a meal on the gas stove and bbq and enjoying some wine in the hot tub which we had stoked all day to get it nice and hot. At Night we listened to a morepork calling and Mother Nature treated us once again with a full moon which bounced off the bay below and lit everything up. Thank you for the best 2 days I think we’ve ever had. Oh and of course we are going to try our luck with the photo competition because what is a trip away without some insta worthy pictures?"

"MUST STAY! Te Wepu - intrepid pod retreats is out of this world stunning and just 1 hour from Christchurch! Looking over the Banks Peninsula, this is the ultimate place to unwind, unplug and recharge. Watching the sunrise, sunset and the stars is a definite highlight to our stay. The wood-fired hot tub is a great accessory for a night or early AM dip in the summer (would be perfect for all day winter weather!) The optional food hamper to make your alfresco dining experience that little bit more special is all locally sourced (most of it from their own farm! Including Kate’s infamous cob loaf and is enough to last throughout the two nights and days. We are in LOVE with this place and will without a doubt be back for winter treat! A truly special place to spend your weekend. Cheers to Richie & Kate for creating such an awesome place to make special memories."

“Wow! What a stunningly beautiful experience. The location is secluded and beautiful with breathtaking views. The pods are awesome and truly make glamping easy with all the facilities you need and the hosts are outstanding adding the little touches that make you feel welcome and appreciated. If you’re looking for a secluded stylish private getaway, but close to places to visit, then this is a must! You'll love it!”

"We had a wonderful experience at Te Wepu. The hosts are helpful and accommodating. The atmosphere is serene and the view is captivating. We enjoyed the pit fire before getting into the toasty warm hot tub. The hot tub was relaxing after Tim had completed the Longbeach Challenge earlier in the day. The bed was very comfortable. In the morning we had a leisurely walk through the bush, listening to the birds. We will be back!"

"If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing idyllic get-away for a night or two then stop looking and book this place now. We had the most amazing experience staying in the Ruru pod. Right from the moment we were greeted by Kate and Richie and their family we knew it was going to be special and it absolutely was. I don't have the words to properly describe the experience we had or our stay, other than to say that we will be back many more times in the future.
The location and facilities are so perfect that you get a real appreciation of just how beautiful New Zealand is. The pods themselves are well designed and built brilliantly. Even though it was an extremely hot day (Over 30 degrees) the pod with the bed remained cool throughout the day and night. Being able to relax in your own private, wood fire heated hot tub is an experience not to be missed, especially when it's combined with a view overlooking the harbour.
We decided to get the BBQ hamper with the stay and that was a great decision, with fresh produce including steak, Crayfish and locally produced wine it was well supplied and added that extra bit of luxury comfort. We cannot wait to get back and have started planning our next night away to this little slice of New Zealand paradise."

“We had an amazing time at Kate and Richie's fantastic pod retreat. They are truly awesome hosts. The pods are so cool and really well thought out. The view is to die for and the hot tub was easy to use and PRE-HEATED for us! Everything was thought of and Kate's hampers (with Richie's seafood additions) are really yummy!! Highly recommend this fantastic glamping accommodation. Close to town and all the peninsula has to offer.”

“Staying at Te Wepu is an absolute must-do if you are in the Canterbury area! The Kereru pod is set in a stunning location up the hill with beautiful views over the water to Akaroa. It had everything we needed for a fantastic relaxing getaway and the woodfired hot tub was the icing on the cake. We loved all the extra touches that made it very special and would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to get away from it all.”

"Te Wepu Intrepid Pods give you the coolest, quaintest, coziest glamping experience this side of Cook Straight. Your own nook in the native trees, a view of Akaroa Harbour, a chorus of birdsong, a private pod (comfy beds, and lovely linen!), and your own fire-heated spa to relax into and let it all soak in. Keep your slippers clean and stick to the decked areas between the sleeping pod/spa/changing pod/fire pit or put on your hiking boots and walk to the top of the hill for an even more spectacular view. Either way, you'll sleep well here!!!"

We stayed for two nights at the Te Wepu Intrepid Pods, and it felt like it was over in a flash.
From the warm and friendly arrival, to the chat about the local delicacies (French Peak Pinot and Barry’s Bay Cheeses) upon our departure, the kiwi charm was ever-present.
We arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday, after exploring the delightful French-inspired local Akaroa, and were welcomed by a big wave and smiles from Kate and Richie. After a quick transfer of bags and one of Kate’s famous hampers onto the Quad bike, we were off up the hill to the Kereru Pod - our home away from home for our long weekend.
The views were immediately breathtaking, and the pods well decked out with all you need for your ultimate ‘glamping’ experience. The wood-fire hot tub had been warmed earlier in the day and was reaching peak relaxing temperature.
We settled in and got stuck into the delights that awaited is in our BBQ hamper, this included local wine and cheese, meat fresh from the farm, and a top notch serving of Kate’s ginger crunch - my favourite! As the sun went down, we watched the solar lights come to life and listened to the bird calls, total bliss.
A toasty night in our sleeping pod had us awake to the suns rays beaming down on Akaroa Harbour through the scattered cloud. Another brilliant day ahead with numerous cups of tea on the deck in the morning and some world class NZ Sav come the afternoon. We had fantails flying around us all day, and moreporks with their distinctive call in the evening - the only sounds above the cracking of the fire.
The hot tub is the ultimate relaxer, and a personal challenge we took on to keep the fire burning!
The kitchen area has all the essentials to cook up a gourmet meal, no flimsy plastic camping plates here! Gorgeous dinnerware, all colour coordinated to match the earthy and seaside surrounding.
The sleeping pod was beautifully appointed with quality bedding, blankets made locally from Alpaca wool, and a handful of quality New Zealand books for bedtime reading - including some local magazines with the history of the Pods.
I won’t give away all of the treasures that await you, but if you want a weekend away that’s got a rustic kiwi vibe with some the creature comforts of home, this is the place to go. Would totally recommend at least two nights stay, as we really got into the vibe on our first morning, and could have easily stayed a third night. One of my favourite aspects of staying here was that so much of the experience is local - this provides for the ultimate in freshness and quality. Nothing generic about this experience at all!
Thanks again, Kate and Richie - you’re awesome hosts and have a beautiful property”
